{ First Comes Love } – Engagement Session, and Why You Should Do It

Many couples ponder whether or not they should have an engagement session. “Should we do it? Is it really worth it?” comes to mind. Often couples ask whether they may be able to swap out the engagement session for additional items in their wedding photography package, or eliminate the session all together in order to save money. In my opinion, every couple should have an engagement session. No matter what. Most definitely. Not a question in my mind. Positive. And your question is, “why?” Well, for me, I just happen to be totally utterly obsessed with pictures. Pictures of anything capturing pure love, the organic, raw, glowing bliss of being engaged…being in LOVE. It’s just so romantic and precious. And I have a huge crush on it. When you get to visually look at these photos and feel the romance tucked into every corner, you’ll know exactly why I insisted. Not only are the pictures absolutely fabulous and beyond gorgeous to have forever and ever, but they can also be used on your special day as decor! It is a great way to show off all of your engagement photos, your guests will be feasting their eyes on all the stunning images. Frame them and place them on your tables with your centerpiece, scatter them on your delectable desert table, or place them at your candy bar, wherever you decide, they’ll be bringing all sorts of lovely. And when everyone is ahhing on all those pretty little numbers, you’ll be feeling great and thankful you did it all over again.

It’s also good for you and your photographer to get a feel for eachother, get to know eachother, and for you to get comfortable in front of the camera. The love, the romance, the uniqueness of who you two are when you are together, its what your engagement session is all about. Its about the two of you, your story, your life journey which brought you to this point together. This session is so important for the photographer to get to see you interact together, to see how he holds you tight like nothing in this world can take you from his arms. Pretend no one is around, like you just kissed while no one is looking….

~ Choose a location that is personal to you both. Maybe where you had your first date, where you met or where you got engaged. It could be a favorite place you like to go togther, even if its to Sprinkles Cupcakes to indulge in a red velvet.

~Schedule your hair and makeup trial run on the day of the session. This way, you can look extra fabulous, test out your hair and makeup, and see how it photographs.

~Coordinate your outfits. Choose complimenting colors for your skin, be you, and feel free to be fun with your footwear. Even you men!

{ Me } – Capturing The Breaths Between The Moments

So as wedding season closes for me and some serious editing begins to take place, I begin to breathe normally again. In the rush and craziness that IS wedding season, it is hard to really take time to reflect on your business, who you are, where you are going. At that moment, you are in the craziness and it lasts for 3 straight months! The whole while, you just pray to God every night that your family doesn’t forget you, your husband forgives you, that your computer can hold just one more photo, and that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Don’t get me wrong, I love weddings and wedding season, but it is exhausting work. Especially when you put your whole being into every wedding client that you work for. At the end of the day, there is little left but a sore body and an exhausted mind. Sorry honey, for my absent mindedness, and inability to pry myself out of bed this past 3 months! But now it is over, and I can breathe and I am reminded that I am human. I may be a Super human, but still human

Today, I met with an absolutely LOVELY bride-to-be, who reminded me to really tap into myself again. It was in talking to her about what I do, who I am and my viewpoint on capturing a wedding, that I realized how much I have grown in this past 3 months. Like any creative process, the journey is never ending. You will always change and grow, and hopefully you change in a positive way. It was in asking me what I do to capture my images, that really got me to think. I have always know I am a “clean” photographer. I don’t rely on crazy editing fads, tilt lenses, or anything special lighting tricks to capture my images. I want to capture images that are classic and portray the event in EXACTLY the way it happens. I have grown to realize that “I” am the tool that gets the job done. It is my relationship with my bride and grooms, my ability to make people laugh, the comfort level we create, and my willingness to be emphatic and ” get it” that sets my images apart. Because in being that person, who no one else can be, I offer a unique candid look into the day. I am able to get people to let their guard down, and to do more than pose for a camera. They can be themselves. And in doing that I can do what I am good at, Capturing those breaths between the moments. It is those breaths that separate who I am and where I am going as a photographer. It is those breaths, not the moments, that make us all realize the true beauty in the day. The vulnerabilities are beautiful, when you trust someone enough to let them capture it. I am honored that I have been chosen by so many of you to capture your wedding day. So keep breathing… I can’t wait to capture all the little life in between

Another long overdue wedding post. I usually am on top of the blog, but having been out of town for a week or so, things got a little behind. I hope Lori and Matt will forgive me You probably recognise these two from their previous sessions. They are another one of my fabulous bride and grooms who love to have their photo taken. These two are absolutely the best together. I know I say that a lot, and I always mean it. I just have so many couples who I believe are good fits. Now, maybe they are always on their best behavior, but after spending countless hours with these two, i can say that they treat each other so well.. they respect each other, and are just the best of friends. Lori is able to be her true self, and Matt love who she really is, and it shows so much when they are together. Can’t wait to continue working with you guys! { Blue Eyes } – Dana and Brady at Sunridge Canyon

Some of you may recognize Brady and Dana from their engagement session. Brady and I went to elementary school together and it is funny how we ran into each other so many years later in an elevator at one of Dana’s friends’ wedding. I am happy I had that chance encounter and was able to be a part of Brady and Dana’s celebration at Sunridge Canyon in Fountain Hills. The views were spectacular and the crowd was fun, what more can one ask from a wedding.. Oh yeah.. and the bride and groom are sickeningly cute!!! { fun fun fun } – Lauren and Garrett at Ashley Manor

So we are in the middle of switching servers and somehow poor Laren and Garretts original blog post got lost somewhere.. so I am sorry to them if they think I forgot about them Although I hope you are enjoying your honeymoon and not checking for pics, lol . Lauren and Garrett are just the sweetest people and it is so apparent how much they love one another. The moment Garrett saw Lauren come down the aisle to become his bride, he swelled up with tears. It was so touching to see a groom genuinely emotional at the thought of the new life he is stepping into. Lauren shed her share of tears as well , but it is the image of her tearing apart her boquet before the ceremony that I will remember. She will have to tell you the story, but it was comical to say the least, lol Enjoy the previews and CONGRATS!

{ Fun Fun Fun } – Chelsea and Les at Portico

Chelsea looked absolutely stunning last night ! She and Les were married at Portico in Queen Creek Arizona. It was such a fun night thanks to their awesome DJ Nate with infinity entertainment. He was so much fun and kept the crowd involved the entire night.. def check him out if you are looking around. Jen with Ever After Florals provided the beautiful bouquets, and A Peice of Cakeprovided the beautiful cake! It was a fun evening full of laughter, smiles and a few heartfelt tears, Oh and some drool too.. check out the sleeping little boy on his dad’s shoulders
